Anyone else been reading about the UK's "herd immunity" approach to the virus? Basically, the idea is that you isolate the most vulnerable (the elderly, the immuno-compromised etc) but don't put many restrictions on everyone else. They are calculating that if 60% of the (healthy) population gets the virus, they will build up immunity to it and future breakouts wont be as severe. Such an approach also has less economic impact. No other countries seem to be adopting the same strategy though. And the UK government now seems to be getting cold feet as well. Seems pretty risky, but I'm certainly no expert so what would I know. Boris Johnson could emerge from this as a genius or a super-villain, depending on the outcome. www.vox.com/world/2020/3/15/21180414/coronavirus-uk-herd-immunity-vallance-johnsonHmm pretty hard to tell.. if numbers are true even for younger people the risk to die is much higher than the flu. The flu has a mortality rate of 0.1% for the whole population.. and mainly old people die from it. The corona virus has a mortality rate of 0.2 - 1.5% for people below 60. Which is much much worse than the flu even for young and healthy people... this will not end well for britain. And you will not be able to keep it away from the old people anyway.. young people need to take care for old people.. if they are all sick they will infect them.. and once they have it it will spread there as well.. Also big issue will be that millions of people will be sick at the same time.. i think the best option still is to slow it down.. there will also be medications that can help to reduce the mortality.. but they are expected first at the end of april because good studies take a while until you can figure out what helps and what doesn't. And even if there are some good medications in the end yuo will not be able to produce billions of doses for the whole world... so in general slowing it down makes the most sense... but brits are far away from any logic lately anyway..

I'm officially working from home for the foreseeable future. My part-time job at a restaurant it basically toast because restaurants are take-out only now. There's a hiring freeze in NY, which sucks because I was SO close to going home. This thing is crazy.

+427 deaths in just one day in italy.. i feel so so sorry for them and i really hope it will get better soon.. can you imagine that 1/3 of the people in italy still don't care and they still don't follow the rules... people are dying because of stupid people that don't want to change their behaviour bc. they are not at high risk... please tell everyone you know to do social distancing right now.. stay at home..
