My sister in law just came back sick from a week in Bali and had to be tested for the virus. Luckily, the tests came back negative.
Also, in related news...I was reading an article about Australian preppers and their reaction to the virus. Turns out they have these things called life straws that allow you to drink out of dirty puddles. And they bury their stashes of food and medicine in the bush. They seem a bit mad, but a life straw is also kind of cool.

Also meant to ask....are other countries going nuts and hoarding toilet paper? Or selling it on Ebay for $10 a roll? Or are people here just extra-ridiculous?

It's hand sanitizer (and the alcohol and aloe vera gel you can combine to make it yourself) that are sold out here.
I just read a couple twitter threads by Italian doctors describing the dire situation over there. I wish I hadn't.

It's happening here too Syd - not to the extreme that it has been in Australia, but has still happened - like at first most people were like "what's going on in Australia? Why is everyone buying so much toilet paper?" and then a few days later people start posting photos of completely empty supermarket aisles. I don't get it at all. I mean, I'm pretty concerned about the virus, but hell, how much TP do you need?

I live in southern germany.. so we are relativly close to northern italy. We have lots of cases now from people that returned from their skiing holidays from the italian alps. The numbers are rising daily and the government is acting on a daily basis with more and more restrictions... i heard direct reports from italy that you are not allowed to go on the streets anymore without a good reason. People are loosing their jobs and supplies are low. You can order stuff you need and the government tries to deliver it to you. But that can take days now. Italy has no choice because their hospitals are at max capacity and they are receiving new patients of about 500-1000 a day. Right now everythings still works as normal here in germany.. but we all have a feeling that it's just a matter of weeks until we have the same situation. Reports of the italian outbreak started a little bit over two weeks ago.. this is growing really fast. I really really hope they can get it under control somehow.
And yes.. we have the same toilet paper issue here. Maybe people are building a fortress out of toilet paper where they can hide... a few days ago i was at the supermarket and you can see stuff missing here and there.. but it is mostly just some brands or single items missing.. except toilet paper which is gone completely.. I think also in US it is just a matter of time until the big outbreak starts.. there are so many cases now where you do not know where it is coming from which means that it is already circulating. In general for younger people it will not be a big issue.. but older and weak people are very much affected and the hospitals can not stand it.

My cousin has lived in Australia for the last 4 years. She sent a video of where the toilet paper should have been on the shelf with her two little daughter running around saying "where did it all go?" I hear Japan is running out of TP as well. I have not noticed anything like that in the USA yet.

I suppose the weirdest part of the loo paper panic is that we manufacture all our toilet paper in Australia. So, there is absolutely no danger of the supply running out. Supermarkets just cant stock enough each day to meet the demand, the paper itself is being manufactured in greater quantities than ever.
Seems like people are in a panic all around the world.

and today I noticed a new one:

Growing up, she was always using it on our minor injuries like small cuts and burns. If she figures out a way to market this in Australia, she'll be rich!
