Have just finished "Putney" by Sofka Zinovieff. I'm in a local book club and have nominated it for my novel to discuss this year as it's current ( applicable to the #metoo movement), well written but also throws up some challenging ideas.
Just started " Boy Swallows Universe" by Trent Dalton. I'm behind with this one, it's been a huge novel here and deals have already been signed for a TV adaptation with the author writing the screenplay and fellow Aussie Joel Edgerton directing. So far, its a very engaging coming of age story about a young boy growing up in a drug-crime infested suburban neighbourhood.

In the final pages of Catch & Kill by Ronan Farrow. He tells the story well and it's an easy read (apart from some of the details not being an easy read). Pretty sickening how NBC behaved through the whole thing.

On a related note, if anyone else is a fan of true crime, let me know. I was thinking of making a true crime discussion thread, but not sure if there's any interest.

Midway through Happy Like Murderers, the story of serial killers Fred and Rosemary West. not familiar with them - what should i know about them? English husband and wife who tortured and murdered at least 12 people (probably more) from the late 60s through to the mid 80's. Some of the victims were their own children. Many of the bodies were found buried in and around the family home. Both were sexual deviants (Rose prostituted herself for free, for fun) and sadists. It's the relationship between the two that provides the fascination with the case - its unusual for two people in a relationship to be so equally disturbed. Fred had killed without Rose, so he was capable of doing so without her input. It's impossible to say whether Rose would have killed without Fred- but there is plenty of evidence to suggest she encouraged the attacks on their victims, and was certainly capable of cruelty and violence all on her own. In fact, their son claims Fred was actually scared of Rose and that she was a more frightening figure for the children growing up.

Just finished Little Eve by Catriona Ward and adored it. Beautifully written, slow burn literary horror that keeps you guessing. Loved it so much, I'm already half way through another of her novels, RawBlood.
