Just listened to it this morning, I was doing work at the same time so it didn't have my full attention but first impression that it's a lot better than Lightning Bolt (the only PJ album that I've been thoroughly underwhelmed by).

I've listen to the record now probably over a dozen times and am not overly excited about it. Definitely better than Lightning Bolt and probably Backspacer, but that's about it. I guess it is what a Pearl jam record is expected to be in the year 2020.

I guess it is what a Pearl jam record is expected to be in the year 2020. I've listened to it a few times now too and feel kind of the same (except that I actually really love Backspacer, so don't think I like the new one more than that). It's funny - Pearl Jam were one of my most favourite bands in the late 90s but over the last 6-7 years I've stopped listening to them as often, and I find it very hard to get excited about a new album, I'm like "yeah, I'll check it out" - I feel like they've fallen into that space that a lot of bands do later in their careers which is a shame. If I compare that to Radiohead, who were also one of my most favourite bands in the late 90s, and whenever they release something new the world stops for me - I'm on that shit straight away and it still gets me more excited than pretty much anything else. I wish I could still get excited for Pearl Jam, but it's hard - just kind of feels like more of the same (and as much as I hate to say it, not really that necessary - like a new album is just a reason to do a tour - like the Rolling Stones have been for a few decades). I would still 100% go and see them live though.

Listened to this a couple of times in the last few days after forgetting about it for a few weeks. Must say I'm enjoying it more now.
